Sushant Singh’s demise created an impact on the minds of common individuals and suddenly a lot of people started talking about mental health awareness, how depression kills and how overlooked people are. But did we really mean what we said or what we posted on our social media wall? It has been more than a month now and we are back to the normal form ignoring people like always. We are in a hurry to judge people, jump to conclusions and move ahead.
In India, the National Mental Health Survey 2015-16 reveals that nearly 15% Indian adults need active intervention for one or more mental health issues and one in 20 Indians suffers from depression. This is where we stand after being surrounded by a lot of people and being the second most populous country in the entire world. We stand surrounded by lots of people but we are heard by none. Neither curing loneliness nor battling loneliness is easy. So next time you come across someone who needs to talk, you have a chance to befriend that ‘someone’, be kind and be humble. Listen to them, don’t judge them for their problems, we all are fighting our own battles.
Everybody feels lonely sometimes. The worst part about it, is that no one notices and sometimes people even mock others for their problems or ignore them. Our modern world has turned it into something that really hurts us. You are there surrounded by friends but no one is talking to you. It’s like being lonely even though you are surrounded by your friends. This extreme feeling that you do not belong to this place is toxic. Why are you interested in talking when they are not? This is where things go wrong, stop chasing people who are not bothered.

Learn to distinguish between people who really cares, who never did and who always will. Try doing something you love to do like reading books, sketching or painting, as it will help you forget everything happening around you and if you want to talk to someone, talk to any one from family or any friend who has been by your side since ages. If you are not creative enough then also it is never a problem, the point is to keep yourself busy, you can start with cleaning your desk or kitchen or out and feed the stray dogs. The outcome of these activities will be more peaceful than sitting idle and over thinking.
You are enough for yourself. It’s time for some self-love. True happiness comes from within and it comes naturally when we integrate our whole being. We have that strength to feel empowered and detach from things. Start meditating, it makes your brain stronger. Meditation is all about slowing down the rate of thoughts coming in mind. It helps us to destroy barriers to self-love and deep intimacy. Close your eyes, meditate and release all the negative thoughts that you have been holding on to.
Support people on their journey to overcome trauma and embrace authentic living. Overcoming long history of hidden suffering is painful in itself and if we decide to ignore people who reach out to us we are literally doing no good to the society. Never forget that we rise by lifting others. All these posts stating your pity for the ones in pain doesn’t mean anything if you simply ignore people. After all it is always said, ‘Action speaks louder than words’.
